This magnificent wilderness area lies adjacent to Kruger National Park and is Moçambique’s contribution to the 3,3million hectare Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Explore this undiscovered corner of Southern Africa on one of the wilderness trails or immerse yourself in the tranquility and seclusion of this well appointed tented camp. Machampane wilderness camp is a true adventure for those who has visited Africa before and who want to experience the bush in its fullest.

 

The accommodation

Nestled in riverine forest at the source of the Machampane River, the trails camp caters for

10 guests only. This intimate accommodation is in well appointed en-suite tents on raised decks, set into the river bank and overlooking the permanent water below. Sundowners are served at the boma where cooks will serve bushbraai and lovely snacks. Brunch and dinner, with a Moçambiquen touch, are served on a deck shaded by the canopy of trees at the river's edge whilst birds fly by and, if you are luck, bushbucks or elephants will drink from the river below.

Machampane tented camp is for those who want to feel, walk and experience the true African bush. Tents are very nicely situated, all facing the river

and are well equiped, nicely decorated and have a true African feel. The camp is known for its multiple day hikes and canoe trails. Expert guides takes very small groups of guests on 3 to 4 day walking trails where camps are being set up and cooks will cook a fantastic dinner under a truly magnificent African star lit sky. Camping is a bit rough but you will be pampered and the chilled wine will come to table. Don't expect to see the big five during the walking safaris though. Safaris conducted by Machampane are mainly focused in unveiling the true nature and wildlife or Mozambiquen undiscovered wildlife.

river and three nights camping wild on its tree-lined banks. Perhaps a cast or two for tigerfish or a sighting of elephant before our 70 km journey ends at the confluence of the elegant Elefantes and the mighty Limpopo.

Wilderness trail

Lebombo Wilderness Trail is a unique three nights / four days in the tented camp, with the two days in between spent on guided walks that embrace the waterholes along the river and capture the space and solitude of the Lebombo plateau. This is the perfect setting for game and bird viewing in the company of a maximum of eight guests.

Massinger Hiking trail

The guided Massinger Hiking Trail uses four days and nights in providing a true bush wilderness adventure.  It traverses the spectacular slopes above the impressive Massingir dam, continues up the gorge of the Machampane River and ends in the Mopani forests of this pristine wilderness area. There are nightly stops at different locations, where the adventure of the day’s excursion is recalled under the African sky around a warm and welcoming camp fire
